Forrest Gump comes to the cinema in the UK.

The first episode of The Vicar of Dibley broadcasts on BBC 1.
The first National Lottery draw is held. A £1 ticket gave a 1 in 14,000,000 chance of correctly guessing the right number. Today a £2 ticket gives a 1 in 45,000,000 chance.
The Daily Telegraph becomes the first national newspaper in Britain to launch an online edition.
